Description:
Chloromethylene dimethylammonium chloride (CMDC) is a sulfa drug that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects against resistant breast cancer. It reacts with the trifluoroacetic acid, which is present in the reaction solution, to form pyrazoles. The hydroxyl group on CMDC reacts with the inorganic acid, leading to β-amino acids and Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. The chlorinating agent, such as chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite, then reacts with the β-amino acid to form an amide or asymmetric synthesis of chlormethine. Biological properties of CMDC include cytotoxic activity against cancer cells and antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacteria.
