1-Capryl-2-hydroxy-SN-glycero-3-phosphochoine is a metabolite found in the metabolism of tryptophan. It has been shown to be an endogenous proton donor, and its presence has been associated with preexisting tumor cells and skin cancer. 1-Capryl-2-hydroxy-SN-glycero-3-phosphochoine has also been found to modulate carnitine metabolism, as well as being a major metabolic product of tryptophan in some organisms. The biochemical profile of 1-capryl 2HGPC can be used for the identification and classification of cancer cells by profiling or by examining individual profiles.
