Description:
7-Chloro-N,N-dimethylquinolin-4-amine (CQA) is a selective inhibitor of mitochondrial membrane potential. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Leishmania species, including L. infantum and L. major, in animals and has been observed to be active against other leishmanial agents in vitro. CQA inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by macrophages and prevents the release of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL-1β. This drug also inhibits the growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, such as MRSA and C. difficile, which are associated with an increased risk for sepsis in hospitalized patients.
