2-Chloro-6-methylquinoline is a synthetic antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro, including staphylococcus and pneumococci. The mechanism of action is not yet clear, but it may be due to the inhibition of amine synthesis or by binding to DNA. 2-Chloro-6-methylquinoline is structurally related to quinolines and chalcones, which are known for their antibacterial activity. It also has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi such as flavus and monascus purpureus when used at low concentrations. 2-Chloro-6-methylquinoline inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. The high frequency of human activity has been shown using a patch clamp technique on human erythrocytes. This active form is metabolized through a number of metabolic
