6-Chloro-2-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme glycosylation that has been shown to be effective in treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia. This drug causes deglycosylation, which leads to inhibition of bacterial growth and activity. In vitro stability experiments have revealed photodecomposition and 2-chloroadenine formation as the major degradation pathways. 6-Chloro-2-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one also inhibits clostridium perfringens, an important cause of food poisoning.
