Description:
N-Cbz-3-Hydroxypyrrolidine is an asymmetric, stereoselective reducing agent that functions as a substrate for ketones and enantiomerically pure 2-propanol. It is used as a cosolvent in the reduction of ketones to alcohols. The synthesis of this compound starts with the bioreduction of 3-hydroxypyrrole with sodium borohydride. This reaction yields N-Cbz-3-hydroxypyrrolidine in a yield of 60%. The product is purified by recrystallization from water and ethanol.
