This compound forms coordination complexes with metals and can be used for analyses of elemental chlorine, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon. 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylpyridine has been shown to react with zinc ions, forming a tetrameric complex that has absorption bands at around 400 nm and at 545 nm. The hydrated form of 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylpyridine can be produced by adding water to it.END>
