(R)-2,3-Cyclohexylideneglyceraldehyde is an enantiopure compound with a chiral center at the carbon atom adjacent to the double bond and is also known as cyclohexane-1,2-dione. This product can be selectively synthesized by using an asymmetric synthesis route. It has been used to synthesize acrylates and aldehydes in order to produce polymers that are resistant to ultraviolet radiation. It can also be used as a precursor for nitroaldol reactions, which are used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. The stereoselective nature of this product makes it useful in the study of Alzheimer's disease and mosquito oviposition behavior. (R)-2,3-Cyclohexylideneglyceraldehyde has also been shown to mediate enzymatic transformations through its ability to act as a diastereomeric or oxygenated substrate.
