4H-Cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithiophen-4-one is a carbonyl compound that has been studied computationally and experimentally. The computational study showed that the molecule is nonplanar and has two conformations. The experimental study confirmed the computational predictions of two conformations. One conformation had an optical absorption maximum at 355 nm while the other conformation had a maximum at 360 nm. The wavelength of light used to observe this molecule will affect which conformation is observed, because one conformation absorbs more light.
