(S)-(-)-2-Acetoxypropionyl chloride is a synthetic compound that can be used in the synthesis of aziridines. It is an enantiomer of racemic 2-acetoxypropionyl chloride and has the same chemical properties. The (S)-(+)-enantiomer of this compound is also known as neodiprion, which is a lipase inhibitor used in the treatment of pancreatitis. Aziridines are often used in the production of antibiotics, such as chloramphenicol and erythromycin. They also have been shown to inhibit pheromone synthesis in insects and are used as pesticides. Aziridine stereoisomers show different biological activities, for example, (-)aziridine inhibits glucose transport, whereas (+)aziridine does not.
