Description

2-Chloro-D-phenylalanine (2CPA) is a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of developmental brain disorders. It has been shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of glutamate-induced neuronal death, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of key enzymes such as glutamine synthetase and glutamate decarboxylase. 2CPA also has a protective effect against undernutrition, with results showing that it can prevent or reverse abnormalities in brain development. The mechanism by which 2CPA exerts this protective effect is not fully understood but may involve increased energy metabolism.
2CPA has been shown to have beneficial effects on memory and learning in rats, with supplementation causing an increase in cell proliferation and dendritic outgrowth. This drug was also found to reduce damage caused by abnormal protein aggregation during neurodegeneration.
