Description

3-Chloro-D-phenylalanine is a synthetic compound that can be used as an anticancer agent. It inhibits the activity of serine proteases such as thrombin, which are enzymes that are involved in the coagulation cascade and tumor cell proliferation. 3-Chloro-D-phenylalanine has been shown to inhibit thrombin in vivo and to reduce infarct size in rats. This drug is also orally bioavailable and has a pharmacokinetic profile that allows for once daily administration. The clinical use of 3-chloro-D-phenylalanine includes the treatment of cancer, anticoagulant therapy, and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
