4-Chlorobenzyl chloride (4CBA) is a reactive compound that is used in the synthesis of a variety of organic and inorganic compounds. It reacts with hydroxyl groups to form esters, ethers, and chlorides. The toxicity of 4CBA has been studied extensively, and it has been shown to be toxic to many species of animals. 4-Chlorobenzyl chloride can be synthesized by reacting hydrochloric acid with benzaldehyde, acetic anhydride, or acetone. 4CBA can also be synthesized by reacting sodium chloride or potassium chloride with an excess of chlorine or bromine.
