L-Cystine bis-ethyl ester dihydrochloride is a gel chromatography reagent that is used in the separation of disulfide bonds. L-Cystine bis-ethyl ester dihydrochloride is also used to detect and quantify carbohydrate, hydroxide solution, and hydrogenated polymers. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 149°C. L-Cystine bis-ethyl ester dihydrochloride has an ethyl group at each end of the molecule, which makes it soluble in organic solvents such as diethyl ether and tetrahydrofuran.
