4-Chloro-1,3-dihydroindol-2-one is a chemical compound with molecular oxygen. It is a high yield coupling agent for the preparation of substituted indoles and indazoles. The reaction mechanism is based on oxidation of the methylene group by molecular oxygen to form an alkyl radical that reacts with the substrate. This process leads to high selectivity and yields. The substituents on the aromatic ring determine the selectivity in this reaction. 4-Chloro-1,3-dihydroindol-2-one is also used as an oxidant in organic synthesis reactions such as elimination and substitution reactions.
