Product Information

Name:
2-Chloro-5-nitronicotinic acid
Synonyms:
  • 2-Chloro-5-nitro-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid
  • Ethyl 2-chloro-5-nitronicotinate
  • Ethyl 2-Chloro-5-Nitropyridine-3-Carboxylate
Description:

2-Chloro-5-nitronicotinic acid is a potent inhibitor of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. It has been shown to inhibit the transcription of HIV-1 with an IC50 value of 0.3 μM, as well as other retroviruses in vitro. 2-Chloro-5-nitronicotinic acid binds reversibly to the active site of the enzyme and inhibits its activity. The binding site for this drug is located at the Y181C position, which is a mutation that renders the enzyme more sensitive to inhibition by 2-chloro-5 nitronicotinic acid than wild type HIV enzymes.
