Description:
(3-Chlorophenyl)oxo-acetonitrile is a photooxidation product of chlorophenols. It has been shown to be an aerobic photooxidation product of chlorophenols in the presence of ultraviolet light and oxygen. (3-Chlorophenyl)oxo-acetonitrile is not a substrate for transport, as it does not bind to DNA or RNA. The rate of uptake was found to be stereoselective with respect to chiral centers on the phenyl ring. (3-Chlorophenyl)oxo-acetonitrile inhibits metabolic activity by inhibiting the enzyme trichloroacetic acid reductase and phenylglyoxylic acid oxidase, which are involved in cellular respiration.
