Description:
2-Chloro-1N-methylimidazole is an electrophilic, efficient, and regioselective coupling partner for the copper-catalyzed oxidative bromination of alkynyl acetates. This reaction provides a convenient and efficient route to 2-bromomethylbenzenes. The imidazole ring of 1N-methylimidazole is sequentially coupled with the alkyne substrate in the presence of copper to afford 2-chloroimidazo[2,1-a]pyridine (1) as a single diastereomer.
