L-4-Chlorophenylalanine methyl ester hydrochloride is a congener of phenelzine that is used as an antidepressant. It is also a serotonergic and cholinergic agent with analgesic properties. L-4-Chlorophenylalanine methyl ester hydrochloride has been shown to antagonize pain in animal models by inhibiting the release of neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine and serotonin, which are associated with pain transmission.
