Cesium nitrate is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, and acetone. It is used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and to produce heat and light. Cesium nitrate is also used as a catalyst for the oxidation of alkanoic acids. This compound has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the oxidation of nitrite ion. Cesium nitrate was found to be more reactive than other metal nitrates under electrochemical conditions. Cesium nitrate can also be used as an x-ray crystal structure.
