6-Chloro-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one is a symmetrical molecule that contains two chlorine atoms in the same plane. One of its resonance structures is a herringbone pattern. This compound has been synthesized by the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction with diethyl malonate and elemental analysis. 6-Chloro-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one can be used as an analog for 1-indanone and has also been shown to have a chloro group. It has been used in the synthesis of antifungal agents and other pharmaceutical drugs. 6-Chloro-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one can be hydrolyzed with alkaline conditions to form malonate, which is a key intermediate in the production of polymers such as polyvinyl chloride.
