2-Chloro-6-nitrolbenzothiazole (CNB) is a trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFMS) derivative that has been shown to have potent cytotoxic effects in vitro and in vivo. It inhibits the enzyme glycolysis, which is an essential process for cancer cells. 2-Chloro-6-nitrolbenzothiazole also shows selective toxicity against monocytic leukemia cells, with minimal toxicity to non-cancerous cells. This agent has been shown to induce micronucleus formation and DNA strand breaks in vivo and in vitro, as well as mitochondrial membrane potential disruption. The chemical synthesis of this agent is scalable and can be carried out on a solid support for facile purification.
