2-Chloro-6-methylquinoline carboxaldehyde (2CQCA) is a new antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of quinoline derivatives. It binds to the bacterial cell wall, preventing cell division and inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome. 2CQCA has been shown to be effective against a number of bacteria, including staphylococcus, but is not active against fungi such as Monascus purpureus. 2CQCA has been shown to have antimicrobial activity in a number of other in vitro tests and has also been found to inhibit fungal growth in soil samples.
