Product Information
2-Chloro-8-methylquinoline-3-carboxaldehyde (2CQCA) is a quinoline derivative that inhibits the bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. It binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 2CQCA has been shown to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and subtilis, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. 2CQCA has shown antibacterial activity in molecular docking analysis by binding to the formyl group on the gyrase enzyme. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis
