4-(4-Chlorophenyl)-3-buten-2-one (PCB) is a chemical that can be used as a building block in organic synthesis. This compound is an excellent transfer agent and has been used to synthesize other compounds. PCB is also useful for the production of sulfonation agents, which are used to introduce sulfonic acid groups into organic molecules. The use of PCB in these reactions may be limited by chloride ions, which react with the PCBM and form chloroform.
