Description

1-(2-cyanoethyl)-2-methylimidazole is a tanshinone derivative that is synthesized from 2-methylimidazole, cyanoethyl chloride and ethyl acetate. This compound has been shown to be a good monomer for the polymerization of polyester, which is an engineering thermoplastic material. 1-(2-cyanoethyl)-2-methylimidazole has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the production of polyester with high yield (92%) and also possesses good thermal stability. It can also form insoluble complexes with chloride ions, which are used in imprinting processes and as a precursor for the synthesis of silica.
