5-Chloro-2-benzothiazolone (5CBZ) is a reactive compound that has been shown to produce inflammatory pain in rats. It also binds to the chloride channel receptor, which is responsible for regulating the flow of chloride ions across cell membranes. 5CBZ has been shown to have a decarboxylated form and an organic solvent form. The decarboxylated form of 5CBZ may be detected in human cancer cells and has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth. The organic solvent form of 5CBZ may be present in allergic symptoms such as skin irritation and burning or tingling sensations. 5CBZ may act as an agonist at the P2X receptor subtype, which is involved in pain transmission.
5CBZ also binds to malonic acid, anhydrous potassium carbonate, and acidic compounds which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties.
