2-Chloro-6-methoxy-3-nitropyridine (2C6MP) is a chemical compound that is synthesized by the reaction of tetraethyl pyridine with chloride. This chemical has a high yield, and is industrially utilized to produce other organic compounds. 2C6MP reacts with tetrabutyl ammonium chloride in an exothermic reaction that can be carried out at room temperature. The reaction produces a mixture of products, which can be separated by column chromatography or recrystallization. 2C6MP has been shown to react with nitromethane to form 3,4-dichloro-2,5-dimethoxyphenol, which has been used as an intermediate in the production of insecticides and herbicides.
