Description:

3-Cyano-6-methylchromone is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with electron-deficient diazoethane to form the diazoethane expansion product. The optical absorption spectrum of 3-cyano-6-methylchromone shows maxima at 290 nm and 355 nm. It has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in rats and can inhibit platelet aggregation. 3-Cyano-6-methylchromone has also been used in the synthesis of heterocycles, such as thiadiazoles and benzothiazines. It is activated by various reagents, including sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide, to produce reactive intermediates that act as oxidizing agents or reducing agents.
