Description

2-Chlorophenyl methyl sulfone is a colorant that can be used as an alternative to methylene blue for the detection of protein. It has been shown to activate rat liver microsomes by displacing cofactors from their binding sites and inducing elimination reactions. This compound is hydrophobic and can be used as a fluorescent probe for dihedral angles. 2-Chlorophenyl methyl sulfone can also be conjugated with other compounds, such as proteins and polymers, to create biodegradable materials with a variety of properties. The conjugates have been shown to have hydrocarbon groups that are stable in water and in organic solvents.
