3-(3-Chlorophenylsulfonamido)benzoic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of drugs in the class of sulfonamides. It has been found to be an effective inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis. This inhibition is due to the inhibition of enzymes involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, including acetyl-CoA carboxylase, acyl-CoA synthetase and 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase. 3-(3-Chlorophenylsulfonamido)benzoic acid also inhibits cholesterol production by blocking the conversion of acetate into acetyl CoA. This drug has shown anticancer activity against breast cancer cells in vitro.
