Description:
2-Chloro-3-methylvaleric acid is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have anticonvulsant properties. It is a diazonium salt that has been synthesized in four steps from 4-nitrophenylacetic acid. 2CMA was found to be effective in treating epileptic patients. It is also the first chiral compound to be used as an antiepileptic drug, and it is one of the few drugs that are stereospecific. The synthesis of 2CMA led to the discovery of the methylthiopyrimidine moiety, which can be used as a chiral building block for other organic compounds. 2CMA is one of the first compounds to show stereospecificity due to its stereoselective synthesis.
