(-)-2-Cyano-6-phenyloxazolopiperidine is a piperidine that has been synthesized by an asymmetric synthesis. The cyano group in this molecule has been generated from cyanamide, which is obtained from hydrolysis of urea. (-)-2-Cyano-6-phenyloxazolopiperidine can be used as a diamine for the synthesis of other compounds with two or more amino groups. Hydrogenolysis of (-)-2-Cyano-6-phenyloxazolopiperidine produces 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine, which is an imino compound that can be further reacted to form bicyclic compounds and diamines with different substituents on each ring.
