Cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl dimer (CPD) is a metal carbonyl that has been shown to be a good catalyst for the oxidation of alkenes. It reacts with carbon monoxide and water to form cyclopentadiene, which can then undergo a number of reactions including hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, and hydroformylation. Cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl dimer is an electron-deficient compound that reacts readily with nucleophiles such as alcohols or amines. The reaction with ammonia produces the corresponding imine, which can undergo subsequent reactions such as nitrosation or reduction to produce aniline. CPD has also been shown to be able to form nanotubes in organic solvents under certain conditions. These tubes are made up of layers of hexagonally close-packed carbon atoms that are linked by alternating single and double bonds. The functional groups present on CPD are
