Chlorobis(cyclooctene)rhodium(I) Dimer is a bifunctional organometallic that can be used as a reducing agent. It has been shown to cleave bonds selectively, such as the phosphite-borane bond in the synthesis of phosphine and carbonyl compounds. Chlorobis(cyclooctene)rhodium(I) Dimer is also known for its high stereoselectivity and can be used to prepare chiral compounds with functional groups. It can be prepared through reductive elimination from chlorobis(cyclooctene)rhodium chloride, which is typically generated from chloroacetyl chloride or ethyl acetate.
