Product Information

Name:
Cerium(III) Trifluoromethanesulfonate
Synonyms:
  • Cerium(III) TriflateTrifluoromethanesulfonic Acid Cerium(III) Salt
  • Cerium(3+) Tris(Trifluoromethanesulfonate)
Description:

Cerium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate is a reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It can be used to remove hydroxyl groups from carbohydrates, such as the removal of acetyl groups from acetic anhydride. Cerium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate also has the ability to react with virus particles, which may result in their inactivation. This compound can be used as a catalyst for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and has been shown to have antiviral activity against human cytomegalovirus. Cerium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate reacts with chloride ion to produce hydrogen chloride gas, which makes it useful for removing chlorides from organic compounds. Cerium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate forms stable complexes with nitrogen atoms and has been shown to form x-ray crystal structures.
