Carbonylchlorobis(triphenylphosphine)iridium(I) is a compound of interest for its mechanistic properties. It has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the hydrogenation of olefins, and is also a good candidate for chemical synthesis of organic molecules. The mechanism of this compound has been studied using two different experimental techniques: preparative voltammetry and preparative diffraction. Preparative voltammetry was used to study the interaction between acetonitrile, carbon tetrachloride, and chlorine with the iridium complex. Preparative diffraction was used to study the isomerization process. Activation energy values have been calculated for the mechanism that produce products from reactants.
