Cinchonine Sulfate Dihydrate is a crystalline substance obtained from the bark of the South American tree, Cinchona pubescens. It inhibits glycosylation by competitively inhibiting the enzyme glycosylase. Cinchonine has been used as a model system to study oxidative DNA damage and repair. Cinchonine sulfate dihydrate has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on amines in the presence of sodium carbonate, which has led to its use as an anti-cancer drug. The solubility of cinchonine sulfate dihydrate in water is relatively low, making it difficult for this drug to be administered orally. This compound can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone that are not miscible with water, and then injected into the bloodstream through intravenous injection or intramuscular injection.
