Cyclopropyldiphenylsulfonium Tetrafluoroborate is a reagent that belongs to the group of organometallic compounds. It has a low melting point, and can be used as a thermal expansion agent in the synthesis of polymers. Cyclopropyldiphenylsulfonium Tetrafluoroborate is also used as an initiator for cationic polymerization, which is important for the production of pharmaceutical preparations. This compound has shown inhibitory effects on lipoxygenase enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of pro-inflammatory compounds, such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins. The synthesis process starts with monocarboxylic acid reactants that react with ethylene oxide to form an ester. The ester reacts with sulfur dioxide in the presence of base to give cyclopropyldiphenylsulfonium tetrafluoroborate and water.
