4-Cyanobenzoyl chloride is a reactive organic compound that can be synthesized by reductive coupling of benzene and acyl chloride. This reaction produces a mixture of 4-cyanobenzoyl chloride and 3-cyanobenzoyl chloride. It is used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives, liquid crystal compositions, cyclodehydration reactions, boron nitride, hydrogen sulfate, and other organic compounds. 4-Cyanobenzoyl chloride reacts with silver ions to form a complex that can be used as an antithrombotic agent. It also has been shown to react with phosphorus oxychloride to form chloropyridine, which is an organic ligand.
