Product Information
- 4-Chloro-2-Trifluoromethylbenzonitrile
- 5-Chloro-2-Cyanobenzotrifluoride
4-Chloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is an organic compound that can be synthesized in the reaction between trimethyl ammonium chloride, a copper salt, and nitric acid. The synthesis of this compound is carried out in two steps. The first step involves the addition of trimethyl ammonium chloride to a solution of copper (II) nitrate in water. This solution is then mixed with a solution of sodium nitrate in water. The second step involves adding nitric acid to the resulting mixture. Ammonium chloride is formed as an intermediate product and subsequently converted into 4-chloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile by diazotization using sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid.
