3-Chloro-2,6-dimethylaniline is a halogenated aromatic compound that is used as a precursor to other compounds. It is also used in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals. 3-Chloro-2,6-dimethylaniline can be synthesized by reacting phosphorus pentachloride with benzoic acid derivatives. Elimination reactions with benzophenone are followed by reactions with reagents such as phosphorus pentoxide or phosphoryl chloride. The product can then be reacted with alkyl groups to form the corresponding halides.
