5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-6-ethylpyrimidine-2,4-diamine hydrochloride is a prodrug with antiallergenic and antimalarial properties. It is structurally related to the sulfonamide drugs and has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of histamine release from mast cells in animals, at high concentrations. 5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-6-ethylpyrimidine-2,4-diamine hydrochloride is orally active and readily absorbed. The drug also shows good solubility in both water and organic solvents. Studies have shown that it inhibits the growth of malaria parasites in vitro and can be used as an antimalarial agent.
