Cyclopropyl 2-thienyl ketone is a heterocyclic compound that can be synthesized by the dimerization of 2-thienyl acetic acid. The yield of this reaction is about 60% and the product can be purified by distillation. Cyclopropyl 2-thienyl ketone has been shown to react reductively with formaldehyde to form cyclopropyl 4-methylphenol, which can then be oxidized to form cyclopropyl phenoxyacetate. Cyclopropyl 2-thienyl ketone also reacts with benzene to form dibenzofuran, which is an aromatic heterocycle. This reaction requires no catalyst and is catalyzed by nitrous oxide. Cyclopropyl 2-thienyl ketone has a spectrum of functional groups including methoxy, nitro, and nitrous.
