Description:

5-Chloro-2-fluoropyridine is a substituted heterocyclic compound that can be synthesized from the reaction of 2-fluoropyridine with chloroform. 5-Chloro-2-fluoropyridine has been used in the synthesis of other heterocycles and pharmaceuticals, such as 3-(5'-chloro-2'-fluoro)pyridinol (a cough suppressant), 5,6-dichloroquinoxaline (a chemotherapeutic agent), and 6-[5'-chloro-2'-fluoro]pyridazinone (an antimalarial). The molecule absorbs light in the ultraviolet region, making it useful for analytical purposes. It can also be used to catalyze asymmetric hydroborations and carbon-carbon bond formations.
