2-Chloro-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone is an indole alkaloid that has been found in a marine sponge. It was first isolated from the sponge in 1822, although it was not until the 1960s that the structure was determined. 2-Chloro-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone has shown antiinflammatory activity in vitro against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger, with no apparent toxicity to mammalian cells or other organisms. The compound may be synthesized by reduction of chloroacetyl chloride with borohydride and acetonitrile or diazonium salt.
