2-Cyclopropylaniline is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by binding to their ribosomes. This compound has been shown to have a mutagenic effect on bacterial cells, but not on mammalian cells. 2-Cyclopropylaniline has been used in the preparation of other antimicrobial agents and is also a potential precursor for the manufacture of pesticides. The mutagenic properties of this compound are due to its ability to form intramolecular adducts with DNA.
