1-Chloro-13-Fluorotridecane is a long chain, unsymmetrical molecule that is produced from the coupling of 1,2-dichloroethane and tridecane. It is synthesized by the reaction of esterification with chloromethyl methyl ether in the presence of an acid catalyst. The yield for this product can be increased by using a higher concentration of chloromethyl methyl ether and sodium hydroxide as an acid catalyst. 1-Chloro-13-Fluorotridecane has been shown to be used in the synthesis of methyl esters to produce low yields. This product can also be obtained through electrolysis.
