The compound has been shown to be toxicological in rats, causing death at high doses and exhibiting neurotoxic effects. 4-Chlorobutyl (4-fluorobutyl) ether is used as an insecticide and biochemical reagent in the synthesis of mesylate esters. It is also used in the synthesis of citric acid. The compound is not considered hazardous by the EPA, but it has been classified as toxic on the European Union’s Classification and Labelling Inventory.
