8-Chloro-4-(2-Chloro-4-Fluorophenoxy)Quinoline is a selectable antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of amino acids. It blocks the dehydrogenase enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of 2-ketoglutarate to succinyl-CoA, an intermediate in the Krebs cycle and a precursor for amino acid biosynthesis. This leads to a build up of 2-ketoglutarate, which is toxic to cells. 8-Chloro-4-(2-Chloro-4-Fluorophenoxy)Quinoline has been shown to be effective against wild type strains and resistant mutants of filamentous fungi and can also be used as a model organism for studying other antifungal agents.
